schedule on a daily basis for things that
are deemed "important" outside of our
family lives? I know that I am guilty of this
and have been called a "work-aholic". I
was recently schooled by my 5yr. who
sees things for face value. We were
talking about my job in law that when I
was at work, I was helping to quickly
responded that our family needed
protecting too and if I was not there who
was protecting them. He continued by
saying that during a recent visit to his 73
yr. old Grandfather's, my Dad, they had
talked about fishing. He told me that my
Dad had told him that I had never taken
him crappie fishing in all these years. This
was followed up by my reasoning that "I
was too busy with work".
Wow, what a bombshell and I quickly the
thought, he was right, I haven't. I had
become too blinded by the seemingly
"important" things in my career. What I
hadn't noticed was the effect it was
having on my family. Ladies and
Gentlemen, this brought me to my knees
with shame and I immediately called my
Dad.
After a long overdue personalized and
emotional conversation, we scheduled an
impromptu trip to Blackshear last
evening. We met @ Smoak Bridge and
fished to around 1:00 AM. Man, we had a
blast and brought home 26 good keepers
around 3/4 lb. from hitting the dock lights
(Keystones strike again). It was an
experience long overdue and one that I
will take with me to my grave.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I
"FINALLY" realized what matters the most
and that is family and close friends. I just
wanted to say thanks and share this with
my extended family and friends here that
got me back into fishing. Please join me in
extending an early Father's Day wish to
all of our Dads in honor of all their
"sacrifices for family" and to remember to
"Make Time for What's Really Important"!
Also, a HUGE Thanks to DI and all of our
troops who are continually sacrificing for
family and country. God Bless, Stay Safe
& See You Soon!
